Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation
More children die of brain tumors than any other cancer. The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation is the worldÕs leading nonprofit focused on finding a cure for this deadly disease and helping survivors and families cope. About 4,600 children are diagnosed each year (13 a day) with a brain or central nervous system tumor. More than 28,000 children and teens in the United States are living with this diagnosis. Survival rates have improved for many of the 100+ types of brain tumors, but survivors often suffer from lifelong side effects of treatment and deal with physical and emotional difficulties. We fund the development of new therapies to improve quality of life, increase survivorship and ultimately eliminate pediatric brain tumors. We've invested more than $28 million in scientific discovery at more than 50 centers worldwide over the past three decades. Our Research Advisory Network, comprised of the top childhood brain tumor experts in medicine, academia and industry, helps us strategically shape our research funding program for maximum impact. Our family support resources and programs include emergency financial aid to families (in partnership with 21 hospitals in nine states); resource referrals, helpline and online support groups; college scholarships for brain tumor survivors; family and survivor conferences; free educational materials; supportive, mission-focused events such as Ride for Kids and the Starry Night 8.5K; and services and programs at partner hospitals and support organizations. As a founding member of the Alliance for Childhood Cancer, we educate lawmakers and promote the interests and needs of young cancer patients. We are also part of the Coalition Against Childhood Cancer, which works to unify the childhood cancer community through broad-based coordinated action and collaboration.
