Founded in 1936, Municipal Employee Credit Union (MECU) of Baltimore, Inc. served the Baltimore Community. Anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school in Baltimore City or is an employee of one of our credit union partners, is eligible to become a member of MECU. MECU is known as the home of great rates with consistently lower rates on loans and higher rates on deposits than other financial institution in our market. MECU has also returned value to its members as an annual cash bonus every year since 1981. In 2010, MECU returned $4.25 million to its members. MECU is commited to serving its community and making it a better place to live. All employees participate in community outreach projects that serve organizations ranging from Our Daily Bread to Sandtown Habitat for Humanity. MECU employees are also among the highest contributors to the Combined Charities Campaign.

Garbage bank, staff, and app

15 years ago low-end OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software could read and interpret the text on a printed check with minimal errors. For some reason MECU has decided to use mobile deposit software that lacks the basic ability to read clearly printed text on a check. Every time I mobile deposit a check it can't read 2+ things that are clearly visible on the check. This is not a good bank to use, at all. MECU will fraudulently charge fees after re-ordering your daily transactions. MECU will also refuse to refund the fees even though there is zero evidence on the transaction record they show to account holders to support the fees. They allow unauthorized/fraudulent charges against your account by companies, refuse to investigate at all, then close your account and ignore all further communication attempts with them. Bad app and bad bank. Nice to see all the high rating reviews by MECU employees and paid for reviewers.
