Description:

A History of Words is a fun tool for visualizing the frequency of words and phrases in publications since 1500. Use it to compare the occurrences of different words, see trends in word usage over time, or to impress your English teacher with your amazing etymological knowledge!

To use A History of Words, simply type in a comma-separated list of words or phrases, select a language, and go! You can even select a range of years in which to search.

Languages supported include: English (American and British), Spanish, French, German, Russian, Chinese, and Hebrew.

Use the "Frequency" control to adjust graph smoothing by averaging more or fewer years into each data point.

A History of Words is based on Google Books Ngram Viewer.

Buggy

Great concept, but after you enter a word, and search, the keypad will not minimize to see the graph.

Very Cool

Amazing data. The data is so interesting that it is worth the hassle to get to. But this needs help.

Non functional

This app can't be used because you can't bring down the keyboard after making word entries. Please help! John S.

Frustrating problem

After I type in a word, a frequency graph appears, but the &$@?#% keyboard covers the trap in landscape view. In portrait orientation, the on-screen keyboard does not cover the now-too-small graph. My guess is that these problems are related to the app not having been update since 2011. A sad and unnecessary failure.

Not sure what I expected, but certainly more than I got. It's a one-trick pony, and not a very interesting trick.
