TransferWise is the clever new alternative to banks and brokers, that allows people to transfer money abroad at a lower cost than ever before. How did TransferWise get started?

Questionable service

I am a company customer since 2016. I have transferred funds between the US and Europe through TransferWise. However, my recent service experience is really bad (May 2021). They hold back the money several days in their accounts , ask unjustifiable documentation that your bank (Bank of America) is not able to provide, and have no explanation where your money is stuck when you call them. The people on the phone don’t even know what to say because another department is responsible. This is not the service it was just a year ago. Most concerning is the fact that your money does not show up in your balances. You have to be on top of the process as a customer.

Last ACH transfer was a mess.

Right after I transferred money last Saturday night, I was advised by the payee that she mistakenly gave me the wrong account number, which needed a 1-digit correction. The app indicated that the transfer is still in process and that I still had 25-30 minutes before the money get’s taken out of my account. There was no CANCEL button in app on iOS, tried android still none. I called customer support, they don’t have a dedicated line on weekends. My option was to lock my ATM account, and I did. Monday came and I saw a pending charge on my account. I emailed customer support again and was told there is nothing they can do because the money was already sent to the wrong account. If your app had the option to cancel just like Remitly, the instant payment would’ve been prevented. Also, Wise should have a dedicated Customer Support team to assist on 24/7 if the app do not have full functionality. Or at least train email support agents that are customer service driven and will not just reply with canned unhelpful emails that do not resolve anything.

Terrible now

Was a customer for years uk to Spain transfers, then they started closing accounts without giving any reason. Their terms and conditions say they can do this with no warning. I am left with no payments, money taken out from uk but not arrived One hour waiting on phone No reply to emails Deleted and reported to uk bank
